London Youth Games to support children’s wellbeing

A season of 65 London Youth Games will begin this year with events in Harrow, Islington, and Sutton.

The games will support the physical and mental wellbeing of young people through fun, competitive sport.

Harrow’s leg of the London Youth Games is being held at Harrow Leisure Centre this week to coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week.

According to figures from Sport England’s Active Lives Children and Young People Survey, almost 60% of London’s young people do less than 60 minutes exercise per day. The London Youth Games aims to deliver sporting opportunities to get young people up and active and building connections with others.

Frances, from Barking & Dagenham, said: “Practising makes me feel so much better. I can put all my time and effort into getting the best result to help me and my team.

“I feel really proud of myself for being able to get to the London Youth Games. It’s an amazing experience and an amazing journey for me. I’ll never forget it.”
