Brent Council buys land on Edgware Road for temporary accommodation

Brent Council has confirmed it will buy land on Edgware Road, Colindale, to be developed into temporary accommodation for homeless families in the region.

The development will be 18 storeys high and include 110 flats and five retail units, which will either be rented out on a short-term basis or sold with 125-year leases.

The flats will be offered under the local housing allowance, which for Brent is between £115 and £379 a month.

Councillor Eleanor Southwood, lead member for housing and welfare reform at Brent Council, said the scheme was an opportunity not to be missed as it will help “get people off the housing waiting list.”
