01 Jul Brent to involve community in delivery of first Green Neighbourhoods
The first ever Green Neighbourhoods in Brent will be shaped in partnership with the community, looking first at Church End and Roundwood, and Kingsbury.
Brent Council has agreed a localised approach to tackling the climate emergency and will be investing resources into neighbourhoods that will make a visible difference to community, and help reach net zero carbon emissions in the borough by 2030.
Work is to start immediately and is expected to complete by late 2023.
The key features of Green Neighbourhoods include walking and cycling routes, space to grow food, healthy ecosystems and habitats that support biodiversity, reduced waste and increased recycling, energy efficient homes, green jobs, and a thriving local economy.
Councillor Krupa Sheth, cabinet member for environment, infrastructure and climate action, said: “Green Neighbourhoods are an exciting opportunity for the community to shape their area for the better.
“This is a chance to create blossoming green spaces, make homes warmer and cheaper to run, develop a greater sense of community spirit, and improve health and wellbeing.
“We want to have even stronger links with local communities, maximise cultural traditions that protect the environment, and work together in tackling the climate and ecological emergency.”
