25 Jan Football legend joins the celebrations for 99 new council homes
Goalkeeping legend, Dave Beasant, was among the crowd celebrating at a groundbreaking ceremony for 99 new council homes in Church End, Brent.
The former Premier League star, who grew up in the neighbourhood, came along to the event on 16 January to support the start of work on a permanent market square, five new commercial units and 99 one, two and three-bedroom council homes.
“I think it’s brilliant,” Dave said. “The area now is needing regeneration. I’m here to support that.”
Brent has teamed up with the developer, Wates, and the Jason Roberts Foundation on the project. Their partnership will also focus on initiatives that will bring value to the community such as enhancing a school playing field, organising tournaments, and offering career education to local pupils and the wider community.
The 99 new council homes will be spread across two four-and-five story buildings. One of the new homes will offer inbuilt facilities for a person with disabilities. The two blocks will look out over a green, landscaped space with newly planted trees and a soft play area for children. The new market will feature enhanced stalls with brand new tables and gazebos.
Cllr Shama Tatler, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning, said: “It’s great to see work finally getting started on 99 new council homes. We are really looking forward to seeing this project progress with all the benefits it will bring to local residents.”
