23 May Funding identified for Harrow high streets
Edgware, North Harrow, South Harrow and Rayners Lane are to receive High Street funding for a range of public realm and creative, artistic improvements to their high streets and surrounding areas.
Designed to help create a safer, vibrant, and more colourful environment for residents and local businesses, proposals for improvements were consulted on during an initial six-week engagement, which closed on 16th May 2021.
Improving high streets and the public realm supports Harrow’s economic strategy and is a priority for the Council. It appeals to businesses looking to invest in an area, and by making places more attractive to visit, helps increase footfall and spend, and supports economic growth.
In addition to the High Street improvements, the council is investing in a range of business support programmes and has offered grants to local Traders Associations and partnerships to develop activities to promote their areas.
This combination of business support programmes and local grants such as the High Street Fund, aim to stimulate the local economy.
Leader of Harrow Council, Graham Henson said: “The High Street Fund programme offers us a chance to bring exciting changes to the high street and surrounding area, helping to improve the overall shopping experience for residents and local businesses.”
