Harrow installs more EV points

Twenty-four new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points have been installed in Harrow as part of a successful bid to the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

The chargers installed and managed by Charg.y contribute towards a target in the Harrow Walking, Cycling and Sustainable Transport Strategy of 50 on street charge points in Harrow by 2022.

In declaring a climate emergency, Harrow Council has recognised that one of the biggest changes we can make to help the planet is to reduce the greenhouse gases from our energy consumption. Electric cars are seen to be a vital part of helping to create a cleaner, more sustainable and energy efficient Harrow and London.

Harrow Council says it is over 50% towards meeting their target and that they will exceed it with plans for many more on street EV points in the borough. They are asking for location suggestions.

In line with the requirements of the successful bid, the new 3.5Kw electric chargers, which will fully charge a vehicle overnight, have been installed in residential areas where there is little or no off-street parking and resident demand for EV points.

Cllr Varsha Parmar, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “The locations that have been chosen are based on requests from members of the public where there is a current demand for on street EV charging points.”

“We would like to encourage residents to let us know where they would like to see on street EV points in the borough. This will help us develop an EV delivery plan to seek further funding opportunities to ensure we meet the demand for OSRC in Harrow.”

“Moving forwards, we realise that that even more people will choose hybrid or electric vehicles in the future. This is why using the requirements set out in the London Plan, we are working with developers to give clear guidance on future planning applications and as part of the assessment, we will support proposals which deliver opportunities for the use of electric vehicles.”
