01 Mar Heathrow expecting summer holiday travel boost
Heathrow Airport reported travel down 56% in the first month of this year because of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, but now the UK’s biggest airport is confident of a summer travel boost.
A change to government restrictions may make travel plans easier for those arriving in the UK, and Heathrow is confident it will see 45 million passengers in 2022.
John Holland-Kaye, chief executive of Heathrow Airport, said: “After a tough Christmas, Omicron has continued to bite, and this has been a weak start to the year. As short-lived as the traditional travel restrictions were, they ruined the travel plans of more than 1.3 million passengers in the last two months.
“We are working with airlines and ground handlers to increase resources across the airport ahead of the summer peak.”
