TfL’s West London Orbital could be running by 2029

Transport for London’s proposed West London Orbital rail line, revolutionising travel in West London, could be up and running by 2029.

The new route would allow passengers to go from Hendon, Barnet to Hounslow in just 37 minutes, a journey that currently takes 90 minutes and involves two Tubes and an overground train.

West London Orbital is designed to encourage economic growth and give West Londoner’s easy access to key locations, including Heathrow Airport.

It’s estimated that West London Orbital could serve more than 11 million passengers each year and open areas up to residential developments of up to 15,800 new homes, as well as deliver jobs to the region, new green spaces, educational and cultural facilities, and improve local air quality.

The proposed 18.5km track would serve communities in Ealing, Brent, Barnet and Hounslow.

Project leaders hope construction can begin in 2026 for completion in 2029.
